"Adam's Oak" 2011
This was made in 2010 in memory of my brother-in-law Adam, who was our personal oak tree.
I attended a Jenny Bowker workshop in which we learned to enlarge an image from a small photograph, using an overhead projector, then used complex applique methods to build up the image. I surrounded this with 'Sister's Choice' blocks, fragmenting the colours to blend the border with the central panel.
This quilt was selected for the 'Quilts in the Park' exhibition at Rufford Country Park in 2010 and was awarded a Judge's Merit rosette at Uttoxeter Quilt Show.
"Authentic Alphabet" 2010
This quilt was made for the BramblePatch annual exhibition and was inspired by the fat quarter given to start the design process. The squares are appliqued onto a foundation and the lettering added and edged in blanket stitch.
This quilt won overall champion at the UK Quilt Championships. It is 76" tall and has over 13,000 squares appliqued to a background. No two fabrics were ever placed next to each other. It is quilted with the story of David and his rise and fall from grace.
CQ Journal Quilts - "Magpies"
These mini quilts were an exercise in background stitch techniques and different methods of putting the birds on the work - one fused applique, one applique on lutrador and one was painted directly onto the background.
